| Notice | To operate a drone/UAS (Unmanned Aircraft System) with a maximum take-off mass of 250 g or more, a UAS operator registration (subject to a fee), a proof of competency for remote pilots (subject to a fee), and classification of the UAS operation into an operating category are required. Operators of UAS with a maximum take-off mass of less than 250 g must also register if the UAS is equipped with a sensor for recording personal data, e.g., a camera, and is not a toy according to Directive 2009/48/EC. Insurance is mandatory for all UAS in Germany. Valid liability insurance is required by law. If the UAS use is commercially motivated or the UAS weighs more than 5 kg, a take-off permit is mandatory. Under no circumstances may UAS enter areas protected by specific laws and therefore prohibited for flight, including nearby airports, military bases, densely populated areas, crowds of people, or, in isolated large cities, larger areas. Furthermore, people's privacy rights must be respected when taking photographs, just as they would with a handheld camera. | ||
